About David Rickheim
David Rickheim is motivated every day to make a positive impact in the lives of his patients, using physical therapy as his tool. He strives to customize each patient’s treatment plan to meet their specific needs, using many different treatments, techniques, and educational components. He enjoys working with all sorts of patients, from athletes to work injuries, younger to older individuals, post-op patients to cancer survivors. He is constantly learning from his patients, colleagues, and a wide variety of courses and new literature, keeping an open mind to all types of treatments. Enriching the lives of his patients and showing them how to achieve a better quality of life is what motivates him every day to go above and beyond for them. David earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Minnesota with a special interest in outpatient orthopedics and gait mechanics in runners. He has also been involved in the development of running and cancer rehabilitation programs and he has taken on leadership rolls as a Clinic Manager and Clinical Instructor for physical therapy graduate interns. Prior to starting this profession, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology from St. Olaf College where he also was very involved in the music department as a trumpet player. David specializes in the biomechanical assessment and treatment of gait disorders in runners and focuses on addressing the entire body in the treatment of injuries. He also has specialized training in joint manipulation/mobilization, Postural Restoration, shoulder, and all types of manual therapy techniques. He believes strongly that while utilizing many types of treatments is very important, showing genuine caring and empathy for the patient is the most important thing for optimizing success. In addition to work activities, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing the trumpet professionally and in a variety of ensembles, and running. He has completed 28 marathons to date and countless other half marathons and races of other distances. He is a pacer for several local pace teams and has aspirations to do an ultramarathon and Ironman triathlon.
